As we gather to honor and celebrate Passover and Easter, we find ourselves living in a time of increasing challenge and uncertainty.
As a result, like Moses and Jesus before us, our individual and collective karmas now invite us to examine the deepest questions of life:
What is Truth—and what is illusion?
What is freedom—and what is bondage?
What is life—and what is death?
For certain, the sacred observances of Passover and Easter offer us profound guidance.
They teach us that liberation and resurrection are not only historical events—they are living processes within us.
As our Thought for the Week reminds us: Both Passover and Easter teach the same yogic Truth.
When we consciously choose to free ourselves from our own mental house of bondage, the death of each debilitating habit clears the way for a resurrection to higher consciousness—and the freedom to dwell in the Land of Milk and Honey.
First, it would be helpful to examine the Inner meaning of the Story
The story of Moses is not only a story of a people seeking freedom.
It is a story of Conscience awakening within the human mind.
Raised in privilege, yet inwardly connected to the suffering of others, Moses represents the moment when we begin to recognize:
Something within us is not aligned with Truth and from that recognition comes a choice:
Do we remain comfortable in what is familiar?
Or do we respond to the call of Conscience?
Each of us must make that journey.
From outer identification to inner alignment.
From habit to awareness.
From bondage to freedom.
Consider A Universal Teaching:
Throughout history, this inner science has been preserved.
From the ancient wisdom of Yoga, to the Egyptian Mysteries, to the Jewish Essenes, and later, through the teachings of Jesus— this knowledge has been passed down as a practical path of transformation.
It teaches us that spirituality is not a matter of belief alone.
It is a matter of experience.
Consider the Roles of Doubt and Direct Experience:
After the crucifixion, the disciple Thomas would not believe in the resurrection without direct experience.
And for this, he has often been criticized.
But from the perspective of Yoga Science, this kind of questioning has value.
Because it protects us from:
blind belief
superstition
and dogma
True spirituality must be tested.
It must be experienced.
It must be realized.
We Move from Belief to Realization.
When spirituality is approached as a science—
through observation, reflection, and practice—
belief matures into realization.
And realization becomes:
- a direct knowing
- a steady inner certainty
- what Yoga calls shraddha—unshakable faith born of personal experience
The Science of Resurrection
The resurrection of Jesus was witnessed—but not fully understood.
What was missing was an understanding of the Science of Consciousness.
Yoga Science teaches that Consciousness can:
descend into identification with the body
and ascend back into unity with Spirit
This ascent is what the great traditions refer to as:
resurrection
liberation
awakening
Most people experience only a partial withdrawal from the body—
in sleep
or at the time of death
But through AMI Meditation, this process can become:
- conscious
- intentional
- transformative
As Saint Paul said:
“I die daily.”
He spoke from experience.
Through deep, one-pointed meditation, he was able to withdraw his awareness from the body and rest in the silence and fullness of Higher Consciousness.
We Find Freedom Here and Now.
A sincere practitioner can begin to experience this freedom now, in meditation.
Through disciplined PRACTICE,
the mind becomes STEADY,
the senses become QUIET,
and awareness turns INWARD.
In time, one begins to recognize:
- I am not the body
- I am not the restless mind
- I am the awareness that witnesses both
There is a Path Forward
Eventually, every soul will move toward this realization.
But it requires:
- practice
- discipline
- and the cultivation of essential qualities
Such as:
- one-pointed attention
- non-attachment
- discrimination
- and willpower
Living the Teaching
The great mystics did not come to be admired.
They came to be understood and to inspire practice.
It is not enough to repeat their words.
We must:
- live them
- apply them
- become them
Beyond Illusion
And as the great and beautiful Shvetashvatara Upanishad reminds us:
There is One—
appearing as many and to which all return.
To realize that Oneness is to find lasting peace.
So in this sacred season of Passover and Easter, we are invited to turn inward—
to seek that Light within ourselves—
and through steady practice,
to free ourselves from the bondage of habit,
and awaken to the freedom of Higher Consciousness.
And NOW, at this auspicious moment…
having reflected on the inner meaning of Passover and Easter…
let us listen to the living words of Jesus the Christ— not merely as history, but as practical instruction for our own awakening.
For that Sacred Journey,
The Beatitudes are Foundational
Blessed are those who yearn for spirit and meaning, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven within.
Blessed are the gentle and the humble, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall know the Supreme.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of the Supreme.
These are not promises for another time…
They are descriptions of a state of consciousness available
NOW.
Light of the World
You are the light of the world.
Let your light shine before all humanity … so that your actions may reflect the Supreme Intelligence
within the cave of the heart.
Right Action in Relationship
You have heard it said,
“An eye for an eye…”
But I say to you:
Respond NOT from ignorance…but from understanding.
Go the extra mile.
Give without fear.
Respond with compassion.
Love and Be Love
Love your enemies.
Pray for those who oppose you.
For the ONE SUPREME shines equally on the skillful and the unskillful.
This is not weakness.
This is MASTERY of CONSCIOUSNESS.
Inner Practice
When you give—give quietly.
When you pray—go within.
Enter the inner chamber… and commune with the Truth that resides there.
And Pray–not from the narrow ego’s perspective,
But Pray in this way:
O Inner Dweller…
May Your truth be revealed.
May Your will be lived—
within us and through us.
Guide us…
forgive us…
and free us from unskillfulness.
For Yours is the kingdom,
the power,
and the glory—forever.
Witness Where Your Attention Goes
Do not store your treasure only in the outer world.
For where your true treasure is—there your heart will be also.
Clarify Your Perceptions
If your vision is clear, your whole being is filled with light.
If not—darkness prevails.
Faith
Do not be consumed by worry.
Look at life…
Look at nature . . .
observe its intelligence…
That same Source sustains you.
Seek first the Truth—
and all your needs will follow.
Judgment
Judge not—
and you will see more clearly.
First remove the blindness within yourself…
then you will truly be able to help others.
Ask, Seek, Knock
Ask—and the Truth will be given.
Seek—and you will find.
Knock—and it shall be opened.
The Path
The path is narrow—
but it leads to life.
Few choose it…
but it is always available.
And the Final Teaching:
It is not those who speak of Truth—but those who live it—who enter the Kingdom.
Those who hear and act on these teachings build their life upon a firm foundation.
And when the storms come—they do not fall.
On behalf of the American Meditation Institute and the countless lovers of Higher Knowledge who have maintained our 6,000 year old Bharati Spiritual Tradition—
thank you for your attention…
your sincerity…
and your willingness to practice.
God bless you. God bless you. God bless you.
I pray to the Divinity in you.
